EMISSIONS REDUCTIONS

In 2000, Shaklee obtained Climate Neutral certification and totally offset its greenhouse gas emissions. From 2000 to 2010, Shaklee reduced its U.S. GHG emissions by 24%. Some of those reductions were achieved through consolidating our distribution and maximizing distribution efficiencies. Others were a result of targeted efforts to conserve water, gas and electricity in company-controlled facilities. Shaklee plans to continue to offset 100% of its greenhouse gas emissions while simultaneously working toward an additional 10% utilization reduction by 2011.

Reduction Portfolio

Shaklee plans to continue to offset 100% of its greenhouse gas emissions including all new and expanding offices worldwide. Additionally, Shaklee continues to look at ways to reduce its footprint. Some of the projects Shaklee implemented in the past year include:

  • Replaced incandescent lighting with compact fluorescent (CFL) lighting.
  • Installed motion sensor power strip in each office cubical, to cut down on unnecessary power draw. These strips turn off task lights and computer monitors after five minutes of inactivity.
  • Mandatory shutdown of all computers every evening.
  • Completed a lighting retrofit at the Groveport facility including skylight installation.
Shaklee also works closely with its electricity supplier to voluntarily shed load to help avoid rolling blackouts.
