PLEASANTON, CA – May 23, 2008 – Upon learning about the devastating earthquake that hit the Sichuan Province May 12, Shaklee Corporation is donating cash, personal care supplies, and nutrition bars valued at Rmb 2.38 million to assist earthquake victims.
“All members of the Shaklee family have been saddened by the terrible earthquake that struck China May 12, and deeply moved by the heroic efforts of the rescue workers and the wonderful generosity of the Chinese people and their friends around the world,” said Shaklee China Chairman John Holden. “We are committed to doing what we can to help.”
Shaklee also initiated an on-going donation effort through its non-profit arm, Shaklee Cares®. For more than 15 years, Shaklee Cares has responded swiftly to a long list of devastating natural disasters. Shaklee Cares was set up in 1992 to help with victims of natural disasters and has donated millions of dollars and tens of thousands of volunteer hours of distributor’s time. In response to the earthquake in China, Shaklee Corporation established a Shaklee Cares China Earthquake Fund which harnesses the power and passion of Shaklee’s distributors to aid China’s earthquake victims. Shaklee chose to partner with Feed the Children®, an organization that has a long history and a wealth of experience in disaster recovery efforts, to aid in the shipment and distribution of Shaklee products.
“All of us at Shaklee are devastated by the earthquake in China that has claimed thousands of lives. Our hearts go out to all of the people who have lost family members and to the communities that have been devastated,” said Roger Barnett, Shaklee Corporation’s Chairman and CEO. “It is the Shaklee way to do more than express our sympathy and condolences. We must help. And so we have organized a way for all of our Shaklee employees, members and distributors to aid in the relief effort through our non-profit, Shaklee Cares. The Shaklee Cares Earthquake Relief Fund will raise funds to provide critical supplies and nutritional products to the earthquake victims as well as assist in the ongoing relief efforts.”
