Shaklee Headquarters at the Hacienda Campus.
Environmental and Wellness Features
The Shaklee Hacienda campus is designed to reflect the company's mission of "Living in Harmony with Nature." The facility also serves to showcase Shaklee's corporate commitment to a healthy, natural lifestyle and a warm, people-centered workplace. The building's construction incorporates a number of innovative and environmentally responsible strategies: Energy Conservation
- The structures are configured to maximize the use of daylight, with atria that bring daylight deep into the building interior, minimizing the use of electric lights.
- Building facades are optimized for their orientation to the sun: the south elevation incorporates deep window recesses and light shelves, thereby reducing cooling demands; north-facing elevations include larger areas of glass to maximize daylight.
- High performance glazing is used throughout to maximize daylight and limit solar heat absorption.
- The interior lighting is indirect for more comfortable computer use.
- Motion sensors, both in meeting rooms and individual workspaces, are used to turn equipment and lighting on and off.
Sustainable Building Materials and Practices
- Full use of recycled, certified sustainable, and environmentally safe materials, finishes and products.
- The wood used originated in a forest managed for biological diversity, where the trees are harvested with a minimal impact on the natural environment.
- Interface carpeting throughout the facility is made from recycled fibers and in turn, is recyclable.
- The textiles used on workstations throughout were dyed with recycled inks from the photography industry; the fabrics were woven with recycled fiber materials.
Air and Technology Distribution
- Workspaces are built on raised floors, leaving room for heating, air conditioning, electrical and technology distribution.
- The underfloor air supply improves the quality of indoor air and enhances occupant comfort and control.
- Underfloor air supply assists in controlling heat fluctuation that in turn reduces demand for energy used to either heat or cool the building.
Integration of the Outdoors
- Outdoor landscaping is designed to conserve water.
- Along with native oaks, plants and grasses, a "living library" of some plants used in Shaklee herbal products is part of the outdoor environment.
- Specially designed "catch basin" filters are part of the storm water management system. These are designed to remove petroleum-based contaminants found in urban storm water run-off.
- The site provides a basketball court, a wide lawn shaded by oak trees, patios and a terrace off the Leadership Center.
- Ground floor showers encourage exercising and commuting by bicycle
- Public transportation is easily accessed.
Emphasis on Education
- A 200-person meeting room and a conference center are part of a dramatic two-level lobby that will eventually display Shaklee's rich history and will highlight future endeavors.
Community-Concept Plans
- Three floors of open workstations are connected by atria with stairways.
- The center of each floor contains a family-style hearth with casual furniture and a fireplace.
