SHAKLEE CORPORATION INTRODUCES GET CLEAN:
NONTOXIC CLEANING LINE FOR A HEALTHY HOME AND PLANET
PLEASANTON, Calif., August 17, 2006 – From the company that introduced one of the first nontoxic, biodegradable cleaners 46 years ago comes Get Clean™, a new line of household cleaners that are safe for you, your family and the planet.
NONTOXIC CLEANING LINE FOR A HEALTHY HOME AND PLANET
"Today's consumer wants whiter whites and a greener planet," said Cindy Latham, senior vice president, product marketing at Shaklee Corporation. "But most important, consumers want products that are safe for their family. Get Clean delivers a powerful clean that is safe for you, your family and the planet."
Safe Clean
Our homes may not always be safe havens. A 15–year study revealed that women who work at home have a 54 percent higher death rate from cancer, compared with those who work outside the home. The study concluded this difference was a direct result of the increased exposure to toxic chemicals, many of which are found in common household products.
Added Linda Mason Hunter, author of Green Clean, "Scientists at the National Toxicology Program found 5–10 percent of all chemicals in production could be carcinogenic to humans. Equally troublesome is a five–year EPA study which revealed that air pollution inside the typical American home is two to five times worse than the air outdoors. Unsafe chemicals hang around inside for days, creating a synthetic brew for us to inhale. We don't need noxious chemicals in our homes. Nontoxic cleaners like Get Clean go a long way toward keeping your home clean and healthy."
Powerful Clean
Consumers who want nontoxic, natural cleaners often have to compromise on cleaning performance. This is not the case with Get Clean–the line outperformed 11 national brands in independent laboratory tests.
"Independent third–party testing confirmed the superior cleaning performance of Get Clean against a number of national brands," said Jim Greene, Shaklee vice president, research and development. "For example, Get Clean Dish Wash Liquid Concentrate is 72 percent more effective than method® dish soap and 98 percent more effective than Seventh Generation® Dishwashing Liquid on grease. And Fresh Laundry Liquid Concentrate is 30 percent more effective on dirt and stain removal than All® small & mighty™," he added.
Green Clean
"We believe the small act of scouring the sink can be the giant act of changing the world," said Latham. "Our line uses biodegradable cleaning agents which break down in the environment. We don't use chemicals like phosphates, chlorine, borates, nitrates that are toxic to the planet, and there are no volatile organic compounds in Get Clean."
Because Get Clean products are super concentrated, there is less weight to ship, less product to use and less packaging to throw away. For example, one 16-ounce bottle of Basic H2 the flagship product in the Get Clean line makes the equivalent of 5,830 bottles of 26-ounce size Windex® Original Formula. The Get Clean Starter Kit has all the products needed to clean your home, and it offers an important environmental benefit.
"We calculated the impact a family makes using the Get Clean Starter Pack," added Dr. John Heckman, an environmental expert from Five Winds International, a sustainability management consultancy firm. "The Get Clean Starter kit helps eliminate more than 100 pounds of packaging waste from landfills and also eliminates 248 pounds of greenhouse gases from the air — that's the environmental equivalent to planting 10 trees."
